Although motivation is a big part of the many assets needed to be successful at internet marketing, it is not the only thing you need to get started.
Every marketer starts out enthusiastically – obviously, or they would never get started at all – but you will find that after days of trying to learn new software, and do things that you have never done before, your motivation may start to wane.
Deep down in our hearts we want to disprove everything negative we have read about internet marketing, we want to wake up one morning with commissions in our affiliate and Adsense accounts, and be on page one of Google! This just doesn’t happen immediately, and after weeks of doing everything you have been told to do and have spent hours implementing all the tips and tricks you have learned, it is easy to get despondent and lose motivation.
Every day you do less and less, and like over 90% of internet marketers, you just give up.
Motivation is not a bad thing though, it should always be a part of the mix, but the first thing that any new internet marketer should start out with is a plan – and stick to that plan. You will find that over the weeks, with a plan, you will get into the habit of doing certain tasks daily and everything will become a lot easier.
Write down a feasible and manageable plan for yourself – add your goals and what you want to achieve, and look at it every day before you start work on your internet marketing business. Psyche yourself up! Your level of motivation will change on a daily basis but your plan won’t.
You will have to do things you don’t want to do and if you can do those tasks first and get them over with, you will find that you will feel a lot better for the rest of the day. You will feel like you have achieved something!
When you have set up your marketing platform, whether it is a WordPress blog or a stand-alone site, start out with a weekly plan.
Every day you should aim to write an article and post it on your site. Write five for your site and two for an article marketing site, such as Ezinearticles.
Aim at posting one daily Tweet on Twitter and visit a relevant forum for ideas for articles.
Allot a certain amount of time to Facebook activity and stick to it! Social media sites have a habit of sucking you away from what you should be doing. Remember, this is work time not play time.
Try and get at least one good backlink a day – that will be hard when you are starting out with no ranking, but persistence pays off. Don’t give up.
After a month you will have 20 pages on your website, 8 articles on an article marketing site and hopefully quite a few backlinks. After three months you should have a decent sized website, then you can concentrate on other areas of marketing and promotion.
After three months you will have moved up the rankings and have a following on Facebook, Twitter and hopefully a few dollars in your Affiliate and/or Adsense accounts.
Once the money starts coming in – you will find that motivation comes a lot easier!
Just stick to your plan – it will pay off.
Has a daily or weekly plan helped you to become successful in your internet marketing business? What other tips would you offer someone just starting out? We would love to hear from you!
