SEO – Vital to any Online Marketing Campaign

Diversity is essential to be successful online today.

Having one website is simply not enough. Look at Amazon.com. Yes, they do have an all-singing, all-dancing website but by allowing affiliates to market their products, they don’t have to optimize the 40,000+ product descriptions they have, their affiliates do it for them via their own websites, blogs and Facebook pages.

One website is a lonely page in a book of a million unindexed pages. Search engine optimization is a huge part of getting your website known. This can be done by using paid advertising, which must be approached with caution, or via the hundreds of free ways of promoting your website and your products. You basically have five approaches –

  • Paid internet marketing via Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising, Facebook advertising, Banner ads etc.
  • Social Media marketing via Facebook, blogs, YouTube etc.
  • Article marketing through EzineArticles, Buzzle and the dozens of hubs and article marketing sites.
  • “Organic” marketing by use of keywords that will be picked up by the search engines.
  • Starting your own network of affiliates if you have new and unique products or services.

The first method, obviously, costs money but the first four of these methods can all be done in tandem. The fourth is a subject on its own.

Think of your website as being a cake. Nobody knows it’s there until you start spreading little tastes of it around. Once you have a constant and increasing stream of visitors and your name becomes known, should you stick your financial neck out and use PPC or Facebook marketing.

You have to build relationships with people first by regular postings of interesting and useful information. Let you personality shine through by Tweeting and posting on relevant blogs and Facebook first. Get known on Facebook too, it is the third most visited site on the web behind Google and YouTube (Most Popular Websites) but by far the best way of getting yourself known. People see your face, your videos, they like the information you are providing – you are essential branding yourself, practicing the art of attraction marketing. Do it right and your business will grow exponentially.

If you are starting out and have not yet started building a website, learn all about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) before you start. It is not easy to re-do a website once it has been started. Invest in a keyword tool such as KeywordSpy, Market Samurai or Micro Niche Finder, or use the Free Google Tool and spend the time finding optimum keywords that will attract search engine bots. Don’t skimp on this. A few days of concentrated research can reap huge benefits.

Do not ignore Google’s arsenal of free tools and also read their rules! So many people screw up their own websites by making simple, stupid mistakes. If you are going to use Google Adwords on your site, take the time to look at what you cannot do. If you get “slapped” by Google for not following their rules, it’s a devil of a job getting your website sorted out. Do it right and you will have free “organic” traffic for life, from people who are searching with the search terms you have on your site.

Setting up a WordPress site is a great way to avoid a lot of extra work by using any of the huge selection of plug-ins.  These will optimize your site for you.

By optimizing your site, then joining Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, you should be well on your way, but never ignore the hundreds of other options out there.
